Captain Richard H. Gaddis  

Captain Gaddis joined the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office in January, 2011 as part of Sheriff Mark Marshall’s new command staff. Captain Gaddis leads the Investigations Division.  He began his law enforcement career at the age of 16, working as a part-time crime lab technician for the Portsmouth Police Department.  At the age of 19, Captain Gaddis joined the Newport News Police Department as a full time police officer.  His assignments flowed through uniform patrol, undercover narcotics operations, general narcotics investigations, and a four-year special assignment investigating organized crime with the DEA.

Thereafter Captain Gaddis’ career took him to general investigations, robbery investigation, and a long tenure in homicide.  Promoted to Sergeant in 2000, he spent time on the street as a patrol supervisor and in Internal Affairs.  He finished his career as the Homicide Unit supervisor.  Captain Gaddis retired from the Newport News Police Department in December, 2010 with 27 years of service.
