James W. (Wes) Garrett  


The Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office regrets to announce that we have lost one of our own. Lieutenant (ret.) James Wesley Garrett passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, after an extended illness. May you rest in peace, Lieutenant (ret.) James W Garrett. You will never be forgotten.

James W. (Wes) Garrett started his law enforcement career in 1978 as a dispatcher with the University of Virginia Campus Police Department.  In 1980 he was hired as a police officer for the Culpeper Police Department where he attended and graduated from the Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy.He worked in Culpeper until being hired in 1982 as a Deputy Sheriff with Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Office. 

Wes worked in patrol and investigations and moved up through the ranks of sergeant and lieutenant.  Wes retired from the Sheriff's Office in February of 2007.   

Recently he served as a volunteer with the Sheriff's Office bringing his experience and knowledge to assist officers and administrative staff with various tasks.
