How do I obtain a copy of a report?
The Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office records department is open Monday thru Friday 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM excluding holidays. A copy of an IOWSO report may be obtained in person at the Sheriff’s Office during normal business hours. Under normal circumstances a copy of an IOWSO incident report will be provided to citizens at no cost. Reports take a minimum of a 3 business days to process before becoming available to the public. Some requests may take up to 5 business days to process. If you have a Sheriff’s Office report number and names of persons involved with the case it will shorten the processing time.
Crash reports can be obtained if the crash was investigated by an Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office Deputy. Virginia State Police also investigates crashes that occur in the county. The Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office provides finger printing services to citizens that need a completed finger print card for court processes or for a number of outside agencies. Finger prints requests are completed for new employment, security clearance, DCJS, volunteer work with children, expungement and sex offenders. The Sheriff’s Office accepts walk-ins for finger print processing. Processing of walk-in finger print applicants occur only on Tuesday and Fridays between 9:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. Depending on the number of applicants on a given day finger print processing can take from 15 minutes to 1 hour.
The current fee for finger print processing is $10.00. Before processing the fee must be paid at the Isle of Wight County Treasurer’s Office. A payment receipt and a current state issued photo ID are required prior to finger print processing.
